1. What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device (computer, smartphone, or tablet) when you visit a website or use a web application. They are widely used to make websites and applications work, or to work more efficiently, and to provide information to the owners of the site or application.

Cookies are not programs and cannot execute code or deliver viruses. They simply store a small amount of information that is sent to the web server each time your browser makes a request. Cookies help us recognise your device, remember your preferences, keep you logged in, and understand how you use our Platform.

In addition to traditional cookies, we also use similar technologies such as web beacons, pixel tags, and local/session storage. This policy covers all such technologies collectively.

2. Types of Storage We Use

We use three categories of client-side storage:

  • Session cookies — temporary cookies that are erased when you close your browser. They are used to maintain your login session and other temporary states during a single visit.
  • Persistent cookies — cookies that remain on your device for a set period of time or until you delete them. They are used to remember your preferences across visits.
  • Browser local storage — a web storage mechanism that stores data persistently in your browser without an expiry date, until you clear your browser data. We use this for certain user preferences such as your selected theme (dark or light mode).

3. Cookies We Use

3.1 Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are essential for the Platform to function correctly and cannot be switched off. Without them, you would not be able to log in, navigate the Platform, or use its core features.

Cookie NamePurposeDuration
sessionMaintains your authenticated session. Contains an encrypted session identifier that allows the Platform to recognise your logged-in state as you navigate between pages.Session (expires when browser is closed)
csrf_tokenA security token used to protect against Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) attacks. Required for all form submissions and state-changing actions.Session

3.2 Functional Cookies and Local Storage

These technologies remember your preferences and settings to provide a more personalised and consistent experience. Disabling them may affect how the Platform behaves for you personally, but will not prevent core functionality.

Key / NameStorage TypePurposeDuration
friskr-themeLocal StorageStores your selected interface theme preference (dark or light mode) so it persists across browser sessions and page reloads.Until cleared by you
friskr-glassLocal StorageStores your preference for the optional visual effect toggle (sparkles / glass effect setting).Until cleared by you
profile_photo:{email}Session StorageTemporarily stores your profile photo data to avoid repeated server requests within a single browser session. The key is scoped to your email address. This data is cleared when you close your browser tab.Session (tab lifetime)

3.3 Analytics Cookies

At present, TruSamp does not deploy third-party analytics cookies (such as Google Analytics) on the Platform. If we introduce analytics cookies in the future, we will update this Policy and request your consent where required by applicable law before setting any such cookies.

We do collect aggregate, anonymised server-side usage data through our own infrastructure logs. This data does not involve client-side cookies and does not identify you individually.

3.4 Advertising and Marketing Cookies

TruSamp does not use advertising cookies, retargeting cookies, or any cookies designed to track you across third-party websites for marketing purposes. We do not permit any advertising networks or data brokers to place cookies on the Platform.

4. Third-Party Cookies

The Platform loads certain resources from third-party content delivery networks (CDNs), specifically:

  • Google Fonts — we load fonts from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com to render the Barlow and JetBrains Mono typefaces used throughout the Platform. Google may set cookies or collect data as part of this service, subject to Google's own privacy policy.
  • jsDelivr CDN — we load the Lucide icon library from cdn.jsdelivr.net. jsDelivr does not set persistent tracking cookies.

TruSamp does not control cookies set by third-party services. You should review the privacy and cookie policies of these providers for information about how they handle data.

5. Local Storage and Session Storage

In addition to cookies, we use the browser's Web Storage API — specifically localStorage and sessionStorage — to store preference data on your device.

localStorage data persists until you explicitly clear your browser data or local storage. It is not sent to the server with every request and is not accessible by other websites.

sessionStorage data exists only for the duration of a single browser tab session. When you close the tab or browser, session storage is automatically cleared.

The specific items stored in local and session storage are described in Section 3.2 above. None of these items contain personally identifying information in readable form — profile photo data is stored only for the duration of a tab session and is scoped to a key derived from your email address.

6. How Long Cookies Last

Cookie / Storage TypeDurationNotes
Session cookie (session)Until browser is closedRe-issued on each new browser session when you log in
CSRF tokenSessionRegenerated on each session
Theme preference (localStorage)Until clearedNo expiry — persists until you clear browser data
Visual effect preference (localStorage)Until clearedNo expiry
Profile photo cache (sessionStorage)Tab lifetimeCleared when you close the browser tab

7. Your Choices and Controls

7.1 Browser Settings

Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can typically set your browser to refuse all cookies, to accept only certain types of cookies, or to notify you when a cookie is being set. Please note that if you disable strictly necessary cookies (in particular the session cookie), you will not be able to log into the Platform.

For guidance on managing cookies in popular browsers:

  • Google Chrome: Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies and other site data
  • Mozilla Firefox: Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies and Site Data
  • Apple Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
  • Microsoft Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Cookies and site data

7.2 Clearing Local Storage

You can clear localStorage and sessionStorage through your browser's developer tools or through the browser's site data management settings. Clearing localStorage will remove your saved theme and effect preferences — these will revert to their defaults on your next visit.

7.3 Do Not Track

Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. Because TruSamp does not use behavioural tracking or cross-site advertising cookies, there is no meaningful difference in our behaviour based on DNT signals. We do not alter our data collection practices based on DNT headers.

7.4 Opting Out of Google Fonts

If you do not wish to load fonts from Google's servers, you can block requests to fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com using browser extensions or network-level controls. The Platform will still function but will fall back to system fonts.

8. Jurisdiction-Specific Provisions

Any dispute arising out of or in connection with this Cookies Policy shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Singapore, governed by the laws of Singapore, save where mandatory local law requires otherwise. The provisions below set out how local cookie and data protection law applies in each jurisdiction in addition to this general position.

8.1 European Economic Area (EEA)

In the EEA, the use of cookies is governed by Directive 2002/58/EC (the ePrivacy Directive) as implemented in each member state, read together with the GDPR. Strictly necessary cookies do not require consent. For functional cookies stored in local or session storage, we rely on your legitimate interest or consent, as applicable. Where required by national law implementing the ePrivacy Directive, we will present a cookie consent interface before setting non-essential cookies. Currently, as we do not use analytics or advertising cookies, the consent requirement is not triggered for most users.

8.2 United Kingdom

In the UK, the use of cookies is governed by the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR) and the UK GDPR. The same principles apply as in the EEA: strictly necessary cookies are exempt from consent requirements. We monitor developments in UK cookie regulation, including the ICO's updated guidance, and will update this Policy and our practices accordingly.

8.3 Ireland

In Ireland, cookie use is regulated by the ePrivacy Regulations 2011 (S.I. No. 336 of 2011) as amended, alongside the GDPR. The Data Protection Commission provides guidance on cookie consent. We comply with the DPC's position on strictly necessary cookies and will obtain consent for non-essential cookies where required.

8.4 United States

In the United States, cookie regulation varies by state. California's CCPA and CPRA treat certain cookie identifiers as personal information and provide consumers with opt-out rights in respect of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. TruSamp does not sell or share cookie data with third parties for cross-context behavioural advertising. Virginia's CDPA and other state privacy laws have similar provisions. If you are a US resident and have questions about cookies and your state privacy rights, contact us at privacy@friskr.app.

8.5 Canada

In Canada, PIPEDA and the proposed Bill C-27 (Consumer Privacy Protection Act) regulate the use of cookies and similar technologies. Where consent is required under applicable Canadian law, we will obtain it before placing non-essential cookies. Functional cookies used solely to facilitate the services you have requested may be placed on the basis of implied consent or legitimate business need.

8.6 Australia

In Australia, the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles apply to the collection of personal information through cookies where cookies are linked to an identifiable individual. The session and CSRF cookies we use do not persistently identify individuals across sessions. The local storage items we use store preference data only and are not linked to personally identifiable information on the server side without authentication.

8.7 India

In India, the use of cookies may involve the collection of personal data under the Information Technology Act 2000 and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023. We collect only the minimum data necessary through cookies for Platform operation. For more information about how we handle personal data, please see our Privacy Notice.

8.8 Brazil

In Brazil, the use of cookies and similar tracking technologies is regulated by the LGPD (Law No. 13,709/2018) and the Marco Civil da Internet (Law No. 12,965/2014). Where cookies involve the processing of personal data, a valid legal basis — such as consent or legitimate interest — is required. Strictly necessary cookies do not require prior consent. For optional cookies, we will request consent in accordance with Brazilian requirements. You may withdraw consent at any time by adjusting your browser settings or contacting privacy@friskr.app.

8.9 Japan

In Japan, the use of cookies is subject to the Act on Protection of Personal Information (APPI) where cookies constitute personal information or are linked to identifiable individuals. The session and functional storage items we use do not persistently identify individuals in isolation. Where cookies are associated with personal information, TruSamp handles such data in accordance with the APPI and the guidelines of the Personal Information Protection Commission (PPC). For information about managing cookies, refer to Section 7 of this Policy.

Strictly necessary cookies are exempt from consent requirements. Contact us at privacy@friskr.app for further information.

You may exercise your rights under POPIA by contacting privacy@friskr.app.

8.13 Switzerland

In Switzerland, the use of cookies is regulated by the revised Federal Act on Data Protection (nFADP) and the Telecommunications Act (TCA). Strictly necessary cookies do not require consent.
